Is the Giffgaff Network Any Good?
That is a very good question and after having been with them for over 8 years I feel in a good position to be able to tell you exactly what to expect. Simply put they have most of the benefits of a contract but without tie in or lock in. Your free to go but they of course would love you to stay. This alone provides a sense of freedom that is not normally expected of telecommunications companies but every one I know on Giffgaff really does appreciates and values being apart of this mobile network.

Order Giffgaff Sim Free £5 credit

Another point of freedom and flexibility Giffgaff give you is being able to change the bundle/goodybag you want each month. I benefited from this in a family wedding I had 2 months ago. Normally I top up £10 and buy the mid level good bag but the wedding month I decided to get the highest £20 goodybag with unlimited data, minutes and texts. This allowed me the extra boost just for when I needed it and it felt very convenient.

After the wedding was over the following month I dropped back down to the £10 a month goodybag and have been on that ever since.

Recently I went on a trip in Europe with the new roaming rules in Europe it turned out I could use my goodybag there no problems. So I went back up to the £20 goodybag with unlimited data, as I find data comes in more handy than anything else whilst travelling.

I used my unlimited data to communicate with my wife via wattsapp. I communicated with my family and friends via wattsapp and Facebook rather than calls and texts. Everyday or sometimes many times a day I would send a pic on the family & the friends group showing them what I’m doing, wearing going etc. Which in today’s age is very normal activity people love to know what’s going on in other people’s lives it’s become commonplace which is making data requirements more important when selecting a pay as you go mobile network. Giffgaff understand this and gives you roaming data in Europe and tethering.

I think that’s they way the world works these days, everyone’s just getting used to getting updates on status or pictures rather than calls and texts, which is why probably most mobile phone networks put emphasis on data.

After having been with Giffgaff for coming up to nine years what I’ve noticed is that as soon as I’m looking or noticing other deals from other networks such as Virgin Mobile, EE or Vodafone I always seem to wait just an extra month or two only to see Giffgaff match the deals that are on in the marketplace which I feel very much looked after like Giffgaff are looking out for me to.

Free to stay or leave Giffgaff

Now seriously speaking can you think of any company that told you your free to stay with us or leave as and whenever you want no strings or complex exit clauses attached?? Seriously if you do please comment their name below because I and a whole bunch of folks are seriously interested.

This approach in their advertising message and customer experience throughout their business has set them apart from their competitors in a big and refreshing way. You won’t catch Vodafone or EE saying “yeah sure there’s the door just smile on the way out.” It’s more like how to keep you for another two years.

Giffgaff Free Credit Voucher

We have a free £5 or £10 (depending on promotion) credit voucher for you when you order your Giffgaff sim using the banner above or through one of our links, no voucher needed.
Giffgaff has a promotion where by when you first activate and top up your sim card you are credited with an additional bonus credit as like a sign up bonus for you to enjoy.  You just follow the super duper simple instructions on the Giffgaff site doesn’t take longer than 5 minutes to activate after that you should receive your credit voucher directly in your balance within 24 to 48 hours.

Giffgaff may not always be the cheapest for everything (generally they are) but there are some great reasons why we think Giffgaff’s pay as you go is the best option for you.
  • Giffgaff only charge you for data that you use, so giffgaff pay as you go fits with your needs to a tee.
  • Giffgaff’s smart and speedy online community provides help within 90 seconds on average. So, goodbye frustrating call centre queues, hello rapid replies.
  • You can use your credit to call and text in the UK and internationally, or use it to buy a monthly bundle.
  • They don’t tie you down, which is why all their phones come unlocked. And you can check out some of our phone prices below.

What is pay as you go?

It’s the term that folks use to talk about phone usage outside of a fixed contract. You pay for credit upfront then use it however you like. Avoid hefty bills at the end of the month by controlling what you spend. And our monthly plans work in a similar way, so they’re a great option to get better value for your money without the scary bills.

For a distinct  guide to goody bags and giga bags do continue to
read below to know the benefits and how to get your hands on one.

Giffgaff Goody Bags  & Top Up Deals Explained

This is a detailed section that will go through in depth each one of the Giffgaff Goodybag options. You can choose to change between the goodybags as you wish each month so for example if one month you know you will need to use a lot of data you can opt for a £20 goodybag with unlimited data, minutes and texts whilst normally you may only need the £10 goody bag with 4gb data (3gb +1gb extra).

A goody bag is similar to a bundle which contains a quota of UK minutes, texts and data for a per. Goody bags last for one month and can be used whilst you are in the UK, the EU and select additional countries with partnered roaming networks. Outside the defined EU areas of operation Giffgaff international charges will apply as listed in our tables in the review.
The plans include standard allowances, but you’ll need additional airtime credit if you want to:
  • Roam abroad outside the EU
  • Call international numbers
  • Call premium numbers
  • Send MMS (picture messages)
  • Use your phone without an active plan.

There is a distinct difference between goodybags and giga bags goody bags contain a mixture of data texts and minutes whereas gigabags are data only. They’re both last for a month at a time and have pricing options that start from £5 up to £20 further in this Giffgaff review we will decipher between them where are you would need which one and why.
Your goodybag allowance and your airtime balance are separate items. You can check your remaining goodybag minutes and expiry date by calling *100*7# from your giffgaff mobile or via My giffgaff or the giffgaff mobile app or by dialing 43430 then option 2.
If you use all of your goodybag minutes, texts or data before the goodybag’s expiry date, you will then be charged out of your airtime balance at the standard PAYG rate for calls and texts. Data will be charged at 2p per MB until the expiry date of your goodybag, after which you will be charged at the standard PAYG rate for data.
If you have less than 50 minutes of calls or 50MB of data remaining, you can instead decide to purchase another goodybag early before the expiry date of the current goodybag.

Giffgaff will actually prompt you to spend less with them based on your usage summary.

Now I don’t know about you but in my personal experience I have never come across a company that advises you to spend less with them, but Giffgaff does advise to spend less and choose a lower goody bag  based on your usage summary being lower than the current goodybag you’ve used over the last three months.
So for example if you have selected the £10 goodybag and you’ve only used 100 minutes and maybe one gigabyte of data and probably 10 text or SMS messages then giffgaff will like to recommend that you move down to the £7.50 goody bag and this has actually happened to me in past experience. Giffgaff has actually recommended that I select a lower priced goody bag that aligns with my actual usage summary from past months and that is incredibly first of all insightful and I feel like giffgaff or a company that are actually connected to me as a person and how I interact with the service that they provide me as opposed to the vast amounts of disconnect that you can almost always feel with other companies Giffgaff has got a very well sort thought out service and I feel I’m going to be the customer for life.
I can’t think of another way that a company can reach out to his customer base not only to connect and touch base with how everything is going. To actually look beyond the home profit margins and look out for what’s best for the customers pockets for my pockets for my spending here’s a real human touch that I have not found anywhere else.

Where To Buy a Giffgaff Sim Card?

Well now we have some fantastic news for you, you don’t need to buy a Giffgaff Sim you can just order one from the company directly here. Order a free Giifgaff sim card, why pay for it.

Can I Buy a Giffgaff Sim Card in Shop or Store?

I was asked from someone who was looking for a giffgaff store in Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow or if I knew of a shop that stocked them. You would need to hope a local shop stocks Giffgaff Sim cards as mostly they don’t. Then you may also lose out on the £5 or £10 free credit that you get when activating if you buy from a local shop. I had an experience in the past when buying a sim from a shop that had already been used/activated. Better to order a Giffgaff Sim direct from Giffgaff’s website here sometimes it arrives the next day.

Giffgaff Store Near Me Locator

Giffgaff operates without physical stores, if you would like to order a sim/handset you can do so on their site here.

Do Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Aldi, Lidl Sell Giffgaff Sim Cards?

Giffgaff primarily operates as an online only mobile network. Even if you did see sims in store why would you want to pay for one when you can get them 100% free normally next day or within days.
You can get a sim directly for totally free from their site here.

Europe Call, Text & Data Plan For Travellers

You can use the very cheap Giffgaff goodybag as normal in Europe. So if you choose to topup £20 and go for the unlimited plan that is exactly what you will be using in Europe.
For any calls texts and data outside of Europe please refer to the international rates table above in this article and remember you will need to use air time credit when roaming outside the EU.

Can I use Giffgaff in my country?

From my own research the type of mobile network, customer self service and community that Giffgaff isn’t available or hasn’t been accomplished in other countries within the EU. So this segment of the guide will focus on a country by country basis where I will also compare alternative networks in that country and prices so prepare for lots of tables.

Why SIM-only vs. contracts?

What is a SIM-only deal?

A SIM-only deal gives you an allowance of data, minutes and texts, all on one SIM card. You can change your plan each month. We don’t tie you down. You’re free to leave when you want, but we’d love it if you stay.
Our SIM-only plans are designed to give you the flexibility and freedom to change your plan month to month.

Why SIM-only vs contracts?

By George, two years is a long time. We think contracts are a little outdated like black and white movies. That’s why we have SIM-only deals, where you (our members) are in control of your mobile.
Our SIM-only plans are designed to give you the flexibility and freedom to change your plan month to month.
They offer you better value for money, then pay as you go rates with no hidden costs. Packed with UK data, minutes and texts to be used at your leisure. Our SIM-only plans are created for those who already have an unlocked phone and want to keep using it. Just pop a giffgaff SIM into your phone and away you go.

Which SIM size do I need?

There are three SIM sizes to choose from. Standard SIM, micro SIM and nano SIM. Most newer phones take a nano SIM, while the majority of older phones take a micro SIM. Some non-smartphones do still take a standard SIM though. Our awesomely-designed triple SIM means that it will fit any phone, whether you need a standard, micro or nano SIM.

Can I get a 4G SIM-only plan?

Absolutely. Giffgaffs new goodybags include 4G data as standard. Get in. Choose the goodybag with the best mix of UK data, minutes and texts to suit you. A 4G ready phone and coverage is required to access 4G data speeds.

Data speed restrictions and limits

Speed restrictions apply to rhe Always On data. After 20GB of data used you’ll experience a reduced data speed of 384kbps from 8am to Midnight. You may notice that activities which require high amounts of data, like HD video streaming, will be slower. Traffic Flow and Fair Usage while roaming applies. A 4G ready phone and coverage required to access 4G data speed.

How to do a giffgaff sim swap?

Damaged your SIM or got a new phone that requires a different size SIM then this sim swap guide is for you.

Best 4G & 5G Routers with SIM Card Slot in 2022 Mobile WiFi MiFi

In the past year there has been a large scale rollout of 4G and this year 5G is on the tip of everyone's tongue. With this new level of connectivity and data transfer in an ever more connected world with big data at your fingertips through your smart devices he is ever more apparent that the need for larger bandwidth without wires is the future.

The 4G standard that we are going to discuss primarily within this guide article he's going to be LTE. There are three main standards that comprise 4G at present and those are LTE, UMB and WiMax. but as we feel that LTE is the most widely recognised we will only be discussing LTE most of the time during this article.

4G first of all is the current standard being rolled out across the US and if you upgrade any type of smart device at the moment you're likely to get 4G capability as a minimum. 4G as a minimum expected speed it's said to be 20 times faster than 3G which puts it at an average speed of 60MB per second however it can max in lab conditions only as per Wikipedia up to 300MBS. We have seen some mobile home broadband providers claim speeds of up to 150MB, but as we know this is always on very independent and variant basis.

As with any type of a broadband connection it's important to check your coverage within your locality or where you are planning to use the 4G or 5G as a steady broadband level connection. You can do this via 4G and 5G coverage maps websites that allow you to check how much coverage you have in the particular region where you want to use your connection.

5G is the latest roller on wireless broadband connectivity, there seems to be a much bigger push on 5G from all parts of the US with leaders such as AT&T and Verizon Wireless front running.
5G seems to have had a much larger adoption from leaders to be rolled out to the masses and is likely to see a quicker more robust rollout then 4g did. It is difficult to say what the exact speeds expectations are of 5G as there has been a lot of varying reports to say the least, where some have quoted speeds up to 20GB per second all the more modest tests like the one from Verge show a consistent 1.4GBs in Chicago.

We have also written an extensive guide on the best LTE mobile Wi-Fi routers  4G and 5G connectivity. It's important to take combined approach to both at present because although there's a huge push to roll out 5G it still may not be as readily available in the next few years to say the least as 4G is at the moment so it may be well worth getting a router that can either support both 4G and 5G or 4G for now but be looking towards 5G later on. Below is a list of the best LTE mobile Wi-Fi routers that have a SIM card slot.

Mobile SIM Card WiFi Router  FAQ.

that seem to be a large number of unanswered questions around the internet and we wanted to take the time to answer those questions to help you better understand the cellular SIM card Wi-Fi router world. hello we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions about SIM card Wi-Fi routers that we hope will help answer any questions you may have or may have seemed to technical to understand we tried to break them down into real-world scenarios and we hope that it gives you a better understanding.

Which is better MiFi or WiFi?

They are to be precise to separate things entirely Wi-Fi is a networking standard that allows you to connect from one device to the other and transfer data across a Wi-Fi signal. MiFi is the device itself that is being referred to that can be connected to by other devices and multiple devices up to 20 in some cases. A mifi device can be connected to a cellular network to provide internet access through that cellular network and usually the connection is delivered to the devices that connected to the Mi-Fi device via Wi-Fi.

So to put the difference of Wi-Fi into an actual real world example say you are connecting via your phone or laptop to a wireless router, or maybe a hotspot connection. You are connecting using Wi-Fi router or hotspot is emitting a Wi-Fi signal that your device is then catching and using to access the internet via that network.

MiFi are like the small devices that are listed in our list of devices above that allow you to insert a SIM card and create essentially your own mobile router. This allows you to connect up to 20 devices and you are not bound by an ethernet based static connection you can be located anywhere and connect your devices on the go.
